Intro Title
LIM’s Sustainability Task Force (STF) hosted the College’s on-campus Sustainability Carnival on April 19. This was an event where students and other attendees could learn about efforts, both forward-looking and ongoing, to further sustainability in fashion.

Nearly 150 students attended in person and virtually via livestream on the @LifeatLIM Instagram feed. They had the opportunity to play games and make sustainable crafts, along with winning raffled off prizes.

"Our Sustainability Task Force was excited to plan and host another fun student-facing event on campus. After the success of the Fall Campus Sustainability Fair, we wanted to create an engaging and educational, but truly fun, event for students to play games, win prizes, and make industry connections, while learning that the sustainability space is not all doom and gloom,” said LIM faculty member and STF member Joseph Giampietro.

Alongside the activities, students also met guests from the industry who are working to make fashion greener:

  • Ryan Lombard (’12): An LIM alumnus, and now Head of Public Relations & VIP Services and a Creative Producer of the sustainable denim brands DL1961 and Warp + Wept in NYC.

  • Amy Rauen: A creative design leader who has launched apparel brands for DKNY, Lord & Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue, Amy now helps brands solve sourcing challenges and increase value, starting with their sustainability strategy, through her company Circular Innovation.

  • Gayle Robbins: Her patent and trademark expertise has helped improve the operations of apparel, footwear, and beauty businesses, from established brands to startups. Gayle also holds a master's degree in Business for Social Impact and Sustainability from Glasgow Caledonian in New York City.

  • Madison Mavis: An accomplished fashion sustainability and environmental advocate and researcher focused on the secondhand fashion economy, Madison advises brands on slow fashion and circularity principles. She's also an active member of several social impact and environmental advocacy groups, including Climate Changemakers, Remake, and the Act on Fashion Coalition.

  • Harleen Srivastava & Ageesha Ali: Harleen and Ageesha represent the New York City Mayor's Office of Climate & Environmental Justice. As part of NYC Accelerator, they support the NYC Carbon Challenge, which LIM College joined in 2019.

“Our Sustainability Task Force group worked together to bring in these amazing and dynamic guests, build games and crafts from recycled materials, and just drive community,” said Andrea Kennedy, Chair of the STF. “We know that together we can go far, and together we all can help LIM do our part on reducing campus impacts and driving change for the future!"

The LIM Sustainability Task Force is a group of faculty, students, and staff working to reduce LIM's carbon footprint.
