On September 20, I had the opportunity of attending the Coterie Trade Show during New York Market Week with my Fashion Scholar classmates from LIM College.
Having worked for years in fashion retail, the COVID-19 pandemic compelled Ashley to consider a career change, which led her to the growing field of cannabis retail. Since she made that transition, Ashley has noticed many transferable skills between these two industries, specifically around branding and business practices.
With the increasing number of U.S. states legalizing the use of cannabis both medically and recreationally, the cannabis industry has grown rapidly over the last 5 years, and so have the career opportunities within it.
The cannabis industry is rapidly growing. In fact, it’s now a multibillion-dollar business that employs over 300,000 people in the U.S. Many fashion brands are also taking part in collaborations with cannabis brands to market apparel and accessories.

Congresswoman Maloney has been a valued supporter of LIM, receiving an honorary degree at the College’s 2016 Commencement. However, most importantly, she is passionate about the fashion industry and the role it will play in New York City’s revival in a post-pandemic world.
Moving Forward to Rebuild NYC
On Wednesday May 12, the LIM Fashion Education Foundation hosted the third event in the “People In the Know” virtual series with Dave Heath, founder & CEO of Bombas.
In the weeks approaching LIM’s 82nd Commencement ceremony, Keynote Speaker Emme took the time to speak with the Class of 2021.
The LIM Vintage Club had the opportunity to attend the Costume Institute’s exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration. The Met Museum held the event, which happened to be its 150th Anniversary, virtually this year due to COVID-19. Although the experience was much different than years prior, we had a wonderful time thanks to our guide, Page Knox. She led us through the virtual time-themed exhibit to see the fascinating evolution of fashion since 1870.
