Fashion Scholar Alumni Spotlight: Samantha Mellone, '13
March 9, 2018
What’s happening in your career now?
I'm the Communications Manager for DevaCurl, a hair care line designed specifically for curly hair. We help educate and celebrate curly girls (and guys!) around the globe. I help manage all of the company’s communications efforts, including the brand's blog, influencer relationships, media outreach, and social activations.
As a Fashion Scholar, what special privileges did you have?
I was paired up with an industry mentor, allowed flexibility in my internship schedule to maximize building my resume, and I was able to design an education plan that was customized to my specific career goals.
What extra-curricular activities were you involved in while at LIM?
I was a Peer Tutor at the Math Center, worked on the student magazine, and was the Head Resident Advisor.
What did you like most about being a Fashion Scholar?
The community of students I shared my time with — and the network that has been built as the program continues to grow. In fact, I've hired several Fashion Scholars as interns, and just hired one for a full-time position at DevaCurl!
What are your goals for the future?
To find a place where I can merge my passions for culture and storytelling, while continuing to contribute to a dynamic and uplifting corporate culture. I also want to continue to mentor others as they enter the workforce.
