Transfer Credit Guidelines

Students who would like to transfer credits to LIM College from another institution will have their transcripts/courses analyzed by a member of the transfer services team according to the following guidelines:

Basic Transfer Credit Guidelines/Policies:

  • Transfer credits are awarded at LIM College only when official transcripts have been submitted for review. If a transcript is not in English, or is from an international institution, it should be translated by an official translation agency.
  • Transfer credits may be awarded for courses taken for credit at an accredited institution, in which a grade of D- or higher has been earned. Grades from other institutions do not transfer and are not used in the calculation of the student’s grade point average at LIM College.
  • Pass/Fail courses will be evaluated for transfer credit.
  • Transfer credits earned at institutions that operate on a quarter system or trimester calendar will be converted accordingly.
  • Developmental education courses may be evaluated for English and mathematics placement; however, they will not be evaluated for college credit.
  • Where direct course equivalency is evident, credit will be given for specific courses at LIM College. Courses that are not direct transfers may be accepted as elective credit. If additional information is needed, students may be required to submit course syllabi.
  • If a student wishes to appeal a course evaluation, they may submit a course syllabus for additional review.
  • If two courses are submitted from the same originating institution, and both determined to be equivalent to the same LIM College course, one course will be converted to the appropriate elective credit.
  • LIM College will evaluate Advanced Placement (AP), General Certificate of Education (GCE), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses/exams to be considered for transfer credit. Please see IB and GCE/ A Level Policy.

Additional Transfer Policies

  • For students seeking an associate degree, LIM College will accept a maximum of 31 transfer credits.
  • For students seeking a bachelor’s degree, LIM College will accept a maximum of 85 transfer credits.
  • If a new or existing student officially changes their degree from associate to bachelors they must request an evaluation of their transfer credits/transcripts, to allow for potential additional credits to be transferred.
  • For all associate degree students, a minimum of 30 credits must be completed at LIM College. For BS, BPS and BBA degree students, a minimum of 36 credits must be completed at LIM College
  • The number of transferred credits will determine a student’s entering academic level.
    • Freshman: 0-27 credits
    • Sophomore: 25-58 credits
    • Junior: 54-94 credits
    • Senior: 95+ credits
  • Official transcripts received by the end of the first week of classes will be considered in setting the student’s final academic level for that semester.
  • During a student’s entering semester, transcripts should be submitted according to the following timeframes:
    • For on-ground students starting in a Fall semester:
      • October 15 or earlier: send to the Office of Admissions
      • October 16 and later: send to the Office of the Registrar
